So here is your 10 minute tutorial for easy-peasy potholders. First, cut out two squares of material (the same material or you can switch it up and use two different patterns) to 9 inch by 9 inch squares. Cut out two additional 9x9 squares of batting. (I used some good thick batting. Ya don't want to burn your fingers, do you?)
Now, layer your squares in this order: Two sheets of batting...then place one square of your fabric right side up {that means the wrong side is touching the batting}) and then place your other piece of material on top of that, with the right side facing down. Now, pin your corners and center so it doesn't move around on ya.
Then clip the excess edges on the corners into a diagonal so that you get good square edges when you turn it right side out.
So with the space that you left unsewn, flip it so that you have a nice puffy square, showing both pretty sides of the material, using the blunt edge of scissors or something to poke out the corners so they look nice and square.
Now, sew along the edges with 1/4 inch seam allowance (this means the material is right along the edge of the foot) all the way around the square. (The corner edges can get pretty thick. Just go slow.)

Now, starting on one diagonal, sew down the middle of the potholder, straight as you can, until you reach the opposite diagonal. Do the same with the other diagonal.

Clip your strings and you are done! You have yourself a potholder that you made in less than 10 minutes. Now, go make more. Who uses just one potholder?

What a great idea. Gorgeous purse. You should go into business..
I remember making a hotpad like that in 7th grade. It didn't look quite as good as yours though! Thanks for the tutorial. If I had a sewing machine I would totally make some more! I love the purse, so cute! =)
Great Idea!

Very good tutorial! Thank you I think I am going to add that on to my TO DO list this week. The purse and potholders are very pretty. Love the material.

You are so crafty! :) I may heed your example, only I think I'll make my pot holders a bit bigger because then I can also use them as trivets under Superman's gigantic cast iron!
I noticed that my hands looked like my mothers hands too.. it was shocking...and I think I went out the weekend I noticed and added a manicure to my twice a month pedicure.. heh. Those pesky cuticles.
Great tutorial! I have made these before and I pretty much do it the exact same way you do...!
Happy Thanksgiving Shaina!
Those are way cute - you are so talented :)
I have followed over from OhFransson to you. I hope you don't mind terribly. I was enamored with her purse and was curious to see how yours turned out. I'm working on mine right now and was curious if you could explain something to me.
I followed the directions (but clearly I've gone wrong somewhere!) and am stuck with the lining. I put the handle on before the lining, as it says, but then it's giving me issues with the lining because of it.
Did you run into any hiccups? do you have any suggestion? do I even make sense? Should I elaborate?
.. Nevermind! It seems I figured out to tuck the handle in the exterior bag. Yay! I guess I shouldn't be sewing at 2:30 am! Anyway, sorry for bugging you!
