Today is National Wear Red Day, in honor of February being National Heart Awareness Month. It's a day to celebrate those close to you who have been affected by heart disease or defects. For us, we celebrate Kimble, and all the other little heart babies who have battled congenital heart defects (the number 1 birth defect in America!).
Kimble was born with three heart defects, each one being life threatening. He has battled through three heart surgeries, multiple Cath Lab procedures, hundreds of tests, and he's not done yet. He is currently a very strong and active 3 year old who has no idea that his condition is critical.
We are active members of our Mended Little Heart group, which is a national group with local chapters. Every year, the second week of February, is our Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. We have fundraisers and activities and blood donation sites all around out city, and we have booths set up to raise awareness.
We also need donations that allow us to put together care packages for the sweet kiddos who are in the hospital. These care packages include toys, snacks, activities, books, blankets, pillows, gas money, and other things that make an easier transition to hospital stays.
We are asking friends and family to offer donations to our local chapter of Mended Little Hearts, so we can continue to do great work in our community, such as helping our little heart families and raising awareness of the number 1 birth defect that affects 1 out of every 100 births. If you donate, your donation will be felt personally with us, as we will be preparing for another surgery this year.
If you would like to donate, please let me know and I'll have a form sent to you (you can even claim it on your taxes next year!). Feel free to email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested. Thank you. (Yes, Kimble is wearing my necklace. He wanted to, and said it was beautiful and delicious(!), and is so proud of his extended vocabulary!)
