Keaton participated in his first Pinewood Derby last weekend.  He and The Husband had a great time working on the car together.  They cut and sanded the car to Keaton's exact specifications, and when it came time to paint it, Keaton mixed dark blue and pink together to form this midnight blue color.  They stole some glitter  from my dusty scrapbook collection to give the color some shimmer, and then they enlisted my help to make a snazzy lightning bolt on the front.  Keaton took the head off one of his little toys, to make a "driver" for the car.  I think it looked pretty great. Keaton was thrilled.

Because we didn't have a scale at home, we had to wait until we were at the church to weigh the car.  It was supposed to be as close to 5 oz, without going over.  Even after we glued 6 quarters to the bottom of the car, we still only reached 3.7 oz.  We called it good...partly due to the fact that we had no more quarters!

Here are all the other cars that raced in the competition.  There were 13 total cars.

Keaton's first race was about to begin!  He was so excited!  He crossed his fingers for good luck!  Before each race, everyone would shout 3-2-1-GO!  and then the cars were released.  It was great fun.  Keaton actually won a few of his races too!

After many runs, the cars rested as we all turned our attention to what badges the boys had earned in the last month or two.  Keaton was called up and it was announced that he earned three beltloops!  I t hink he was greatly surprised!

After all was said and done, Keaton got 3rd place for Most Creative Design!  Go Keaton!

It was my first Pinewood Derby and I must say, it was quite fun to watch.  There were many creative designs that all the boys came up with.  As for Keaton, he couldn't be happier.  He's practically sleeping with his trophy.
