Five Months. My baby is five months old today. I can honestly say that I've cherished every moment we've had with him. We recognize that he is a gift in our life. Even with the amount of attention he needs, or the number of office visits he requires, or the hospital stays he has had and will have, we have never felt frustration or annoyance or grumpiness or anything short of complete love for him. I have plenty of sleepless nights (he still eats about 7 times a night!). I have sore muscles from holding him. I have messy corners of my home due to my attention being on him. But I refuse to complain. What matters more than any of those things, is that he is with us. My heart beats in tune with his. He is happy. He is healthy. He makes us smile. We absolutely love Kimble.
He continues to gain weight. Although we haven't weighed him for a few weeks, our estimate is about 16 pounds. He doesn't have a great amount of strength yet, possibly due to his weak heart, but he is progressing. He is putting more weight on his legs, when we hold him in a standing position, and when we sit him up, his fat rolls keep him up for a few seconds, before he falls over.
We still keep a little cradle in the living room, for him to take his naps in. He still likes to be mummified in his blankets and snuggled deep in his "fake arms" (the boppy) when he sleeps, and of course, his little watchdog Giraffe sings him a soft lullaby as he sucks on his binkie and drifts off into slumber.
Although he has rolled over...just twice...he has to be in the right mood to stay on his belly for any duration. Most of the time, we see this:
...and his fat little legs kick and kick...
...and we have mercy on him and roll him over. He doesn't last long on the floor though, even though he is starting to like playing with some toys....
He likes to play with his own chubby hands. He sucks on all his fingers, as well as his thumbs, and sometimes his whole fist. Basically, he loves to suck on anything he can get in his mouth.
But most moments are spent like this...
We both prefer our days to be spent in each other's arms.
But sometimes its fun to throw in some change. Just a few days ago, Kimble had his first taste of solid food. Rice cereal mixed with breastmilk. He wasn't too sure of the new addition to his diet.
We'll keep trying. I'm sure he'll like it eventually. Who knows what changes this next month will bring.
