Recovering

Kimble is out of recovery and is back, resting comfortably, in our room on the 9th floor.  His lip and nose are swollen, but it doesn't look too bad.  It looks different.  I got so use to the cleft, that it's almost like I don't like the new lip.  However, I'm sure  it's just because Mr. Kimble looks so sad and groggy when he is coming out of anesthesia.  It's so hard to see him struggle and cry and swing his arms around and not allow himself to be consoled.  It's a confusing time for him, when he's recovering, and it really breaks my heart that I can't comfort him the way he wants, or that he doesn't understand that I AM comforting him.

Anyway, he is sleeping now.  He has taken some breastmilk in a syringe that is fitted with a rubber tube on the end.  Until he learns how to rework his mouth, and can begin breastfeeding again, he will use this syringe.  It actually should only be a few hours, to give the swelling a chance to go down, before he can try to breastfeed.

Other than that, things are quiet.  He fusses a lot when he is awake, for two main reasons.   First, he has these "no-nos" on his arms, that prevent him from bending at the elbow, so as to prevent him from hitting, scratching, or pulling at his mouth.  Secondly, he has been given firm orders that he is to have "no binkie for three weeks".  Sad Sad Day for us.  He loves his binkie.  We'll see how he tolerates that.

Sorry for the grainy picture.  It's sometimes hit or miss with our little camera.

So glad the surgery went well. We were thinking of you all day. So hard to watch them wake up form anesthesia. No binkie for three weeks will be tough but I am sure lots of extra snuggles will do the trick.

Poor little Kimble. I'm glad the surgery and recovery seem to be going well, though. Hang in there!

Alexis would not take a binki and at first, it was hard but after three weeks of not having it, maybe it might be nice that you didn't have to wing him later.

Hope the swelling goes down fast. We are thinking of you guys, happy 6 months Kimble!
